I had never heard of Pulhamite until a few hours ago when I visited the gardens and grounds of The Royal Albert and Alexandra School in Gatton Park,Merstham,Surrey. The Gatton Trust is renovating the landscape (originally by Capability Brown) and Pulhamite was originally used in ithe construction of the Victorian rockery-it said so on a notice-which is where I came across it.Now,I see that it was used in a nearer garden at Coombe Woods which I visit regularly.I shall do so with keener interest in future.

Hello Claude
My father and grandfather used to be handymen/gardners at Ponsbourne Manor when it was St Domonics Priory, in the 1950,s early 60's. There used to be a lovely stableyard to the rear of the tennis courts, I can remember it being pulled down. The gun house is still there, slightly altered. A big walled garden used to be full of produce and maintained by the nuns. Greenhouses against the back wall were full of grapes and tomatoes. We used to go for our lunch under the chapel in a cellar. I went with my father to buy fish for the chapel pond, I had the fish in water on my lap as we drove, and remember releasing them into the pond.

Just a few comments for the sake of accuracy:

William James Joicey was certainly one of the Northern mining family but the head of the family would have been considered to be his cousin Sir (later Lord) James Joicey.

WJJ purchased Sunningdale Park in Aug 1890, not 1891.

WJJ died 23 Jan 1912, not early 1920s.

Hi, Mark,
These do not appear on the Pulham database, so I would be interested to see some pictures. If genuine, and in reasonable condition, they would well be worth preservation.
